A Still Life

I remember my art teacher when I was 12 years old who taught me the principles of creating a still life drawing or painting. I learned that in art I could capture time and not let it pass, but keep it as a secret keepsake in this treasure chest of life. Thank you to My First Love; My Lord and Savior. For it is He who gives and creates, teaching us through this journey. I am forever grateful to see His extraordinary glory in every ordinary moment.

"...be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth" Psalm 46:10

Through the Eyes of a Parent

When you're a mom, with every birthday that passes your children grow and you stand back amazed. You watch them become the young adults they are meant to be. You are thankful for every good thing that comes into their lives. You stand hopeful that they will be blessed beyond their dreams while knowing that they share this world that has its ups and its downs.

When they are young, you treasure moments when their eyes look up to you and their smiles say it all... oh, maybe it's just a quiet day of fishing and the thrill isn't really in catching anything but is in the tight hold of the pole as they cast a fishing line over the water for the very first time. You see that beaming smile of satisfaction on their face. You are still the most important people in their world.

Why is it that no matter how old our children get, when we look into their eyes we can't just relish in the breaking news of their present day? Parenthood looks into the eyes of their children and they never really seem older ~ just more wonderful.

To a mom, she may be seeing her son at 2 or 32 and you can't possibly tell what she is really thinking about. The memories and the moments are as deep as the sea, as wide as its horizon above it and as current as the morning begins once more.

Love you today, then and always ~
Mom

Spring Ephemeral

Trillium
Wildflowers of Spring

The emerging Trillium takes my breath away each and every year. A quiet walk introduced me to a secret encounter with a forest floor of white. While sunlight danced from the canopy above, the white ladies swayed below to nature's acoustic music. I will never forget that walk and my senses will always recall that day.

It's been 7 years since I took that walk. Gardens hold memories though all our senses. Only yesterday I found a new patch of wondrous white in a woods behind my mom's home. It's a bittersweet life sometimes. Building is taking place in that woods. So I quickly picked up my mom to take her there and we basked in that moment that brought us back to the day when my mom could garden for hours and lose track of the time. Lucky for me our gardens hold the times we share as family. So another Mother's Day may come and go, but this time it's a sweet memory made where time stands still. Love you Mom, always!

Spring thoughts

you can count on Spring, like the long season of silenced faith, lying dormant....
its arrival cancels the fury

Imagery by Kimberly

I adore this photo that was taken by a special photographer whose blog inspires me every time I go to it. This photo holds even more significance to me today since these are the colors of my son's wedding. Kimberly, did you know that your snapshot secretly touched me. Shades of green and the perfection of purple have always had places in my gardens and my heart. This June will be forever remembered in shades of whites, greens, and heavenly purple for they will color the wedding of our son and his bride. Life changes are sweet and when you look to His creation, they are selected if we just take notice. Thank you Kimberly for noticing. http://deardaisycottage.typepad.com/imagery_by_kimberly/page/2/

Be still my heart

It's February. My heart is so full of many things. Nearing the final days of Winter this year closes a chapter of life you know is coming but pray for the grace to glide through. Some things just sneak up on you and He carries you through ever so faithfully. Then... there are those awaited days that you know are coming and no matter how you plan for them you can't help but ask "where did the time go?" Births, blessings, so many "firsts", kindergarten, graduations, ordinary sweet days, awards, marriages, then miracle of birth again. Full days pass where nothing seems to completely fit and you wish for more than 24 hours in a day. It has been a history in the making ... replayed, revisited, cherished in the heart with time growing more and more wonderful. Life is precious in all its changes. Along with every change let the moments be captured and stand still in time so I can hang on just a little longer to the role of mom I so naturally am.

 loyal, steadfast and strong
loving son you are to me
always true to your word
a fine husband you will be

Standing Tall

Many times I look back to a place that inspired me. We celebrated our anniversary in the Gulf before the oil spill. I snapped this photo to hold that feeling I felt when I looked up. In the Northeast we have deciduous forests that reach from the hills. In the South, the palms point to the Creator and I am reminded of the strength of His creation. This past year so many people have been traumatized by nature's fury. My Redeemer still stands taller and it is been written that He bottles every tear shed. I am remembering 9-11 and asking for His goodness to prevail in the land of the living.

managing time, One minute @ a time

September senses a hurried pace. I am back to my school schedule. As predicted, it brings a full and planned out calendar. Less room for daydreaming, I am back to balancing my part-time teaching with full day managing for the busiest season of the year. There are no moments to waste. Looking back, sometimes I am hard on myself in September ~ wondering how could I have slowed the pace all Summer knowing what Fall inevitably brings. I have so enjoyed the therapy of hard work in the garden flushing my mind from itinerary to literary moments that nature so perfectly writes. Then I behold the children. They are ready, as though Summer just fueled them from Spring fever right back to Autumn readiness. They have no regrets that Summer days have passed. They store the fun into their active little minds and it eagerly comes out at sharing time and is colorfully engraved in their drawings. I am revived, ready for October... and ... November ...thankfully energized while applying some finishing touches on my half-done creations.
